Pros
- Institutional license (no cost to project)
- Library support
- Multimedia and collaborative
- Can make maps, apps, and customize layers
- Has data-analysis visualization functionality built in to the map-mapping modes
Cons
- Institutional license (unclear on intellectual property/ownership; if/when members of project move on)
- Dependent upon Northeastern maintaining relationship with ESRI
Below is an example of a media driven “quick app” with a ego-referenced propaganda map that can be toggled on/off. However, according to ArcGIS Online’s online documentation, embed functionality only works (for now) with maps/apps built in “Classic” mode, not the updated “Map Viewer” mode.
Below is the base map created with “play data” in “Classic” mode, there is slightly limited functionality of media layers and georeferencing.
Below is an example of a narrative driven StoryMaps (pulled an example from Harvard Square)
